I don’t believe in stereotypes.
I don’t believe that they exist.
And if at all they ever did,
Then they were only a malfunction in our observation of self and others.
Sure there’re people who live as generic units of a group they belong to.
“Men”. “Women”. A particular race and religion and caste.
But then again, it’s like a subscription.
You use it as an exterior; maybe for safety.
People see that exterior and they make their assumptions.
That way you protect your uniqueness from them.
Or even from yourself.
But that uniqueness is always there.
No matter how generic you try to appear.People think that subscription is a convenience.
Just adhere to a generic idea and live on.
Saves them the trouble of exploring their uniqueness.
They end up suffocating themselves.
Place yourself in a stereotype and you bind yourself with its boundaries.
Which were never too open to begin with.
That’s how you halt your growth.
Worse, they never allow you to express that uniqueness in you.
Especially not when you want to.
You fail to express your potential.
Personally. Professionally. Socially.
And worst, in relationships.
Stereotypes try to eat us up.
And of course we stop letting them.
It’s survival instinct of self.
Stereotypes always fail themselves, eventually. They say stereotypes are unfolding now.
They like to take credit for it.
They think they made it happen.
That’s funny.
It was only a matter of time people would reject stereotypes.
It was only a matter of time that men would realize how they’ve been duping themselves with glorified lack of skills at cooking and cleaning and child-care and emotional expressions.
It was only a matter of time that anyone who’s ever adhered to a group’s rigid mentality would gasp for oxygen and look out of the box and see better ideas of life and reject those boundaries.
Time was always going to kill stereotypes.
We’re just watching it happening, that’s all.
