Observing how jungle cats set bait
and how monkeys balance their weight.
Studying which leaves heal the sick
and which roots strengthen the weak.
Knowing how to escape a bear
and which wood turns into the best spear.
He breathed in the jungle.
He tuned with it. He became one with it.
That’s what inspired him; he stayed true to it.
He developed versatile skills.
He evolved real eligibility for the prize job.
The Prince thought
all it takes is ability to race.
He and the winner are in for a sad surprise
later when they lead armies at high terrain.
But the King knows better.
He has an eye for the real gem.
He made our Ace the leader of another unit.
That’s why our Ace is the Ace.
He knows the real aim is evolution;
not necessarily winning
a poorly thought-out competition.”
