– “How do we have gender equality?”
– “By learning to focus on that equality.”
– “But it’s fundamentally not there.
Nature itself has created some differences.”
– “Sure. Which essentially means
there’s a common thread that binds the two.
For only that’s when
two ideas can be compared.”
– “And what’s that common thread?”
– “That we’re all human beings.
We forget it.
We tend to perceive men and women as
two different species under same umbrella.
That happens when
boys and girls are taught differently.
Tasked differently. Raised differently.
Forced to play distinct roles.
Forced to react to life as per scripts.
We inspire inequality by scripting things.
We inspire humanity by un-scripting them.
What makes us human is our ability to
respond to life rather than reacting to it.
And that’s what we need to teach children.
When boys and girls notice each other
observing, analyzing, thinking, planning
and acting as independent individuals,
they’ll notice personalities developing
beyond gender-roles.
They’ll notice growth. Capacity.
Resourcefulness.
Ability for taking humankind forward.
That’s what breeds mutual respect.
And that’s what breeds equality.”
