– “Teacher, what should I prioritize?
Profession? Love? Family? Fitness?
I want it all. There should be no priority.
But I can’t have equality. That’s idealism.
They say goals ask for sacrifices.
What should I do?”
– “You see that mountain?
Hike to the summit every day for four weeks.
There’s a priest who lives up there.
Give him this sack of flour each day.
In return, you’ll get a reward.
But there’s a condition.
Each week, you’ll carry it differently.
Week one: carry it over your head.
Week two: hug it in front of your chest.
Week three: carry it on your back.
Week four: Tie it to your legs.
Come back to me after four weeks.”

– “So what’s the reward, my Child?”
– “No reward, Teacher.
I couldn’t finish the hike; not a single day.
Carrying that load crashed me midway.”
– “Oh, poor Child… Now do one thing.
Split it. Make four packs out of it.
Carry one over head; hug one with chest;
carry one on back; tie one to legs.
Repeat the daily hike.
Come back four weeks later.”
***
– “So what’s the reward, my Child?”
– “It was amazing, Teacher!
Carrying the load like that didn’t crash me.
Instead, it made me stronger! Previously,
I focused only on carrying the sack.
Now, I could even enjoy the journey!
I ate sweet fruits! I met amazing creatures!
The priest offered me a great meal each day!”
– “Same goes with life, my Child.
You’ve been taught false. Profession,
love, family, fitness aren’t goals.
The goal is simply to experience life fullest.
These four are merely tools to do so.
You need all in sensible portions.
And that means no need for sacrifices.
Profession is what you carry on your head.
Be sensible, and it keeps you on track.
Burden it too much, and it blinds you.
Love is what you hug to your heart.
Be sensible, and it motivates you.
Over-obsess with someone, you stumble.
Family is what you carry on your back.
Be sensible, and it supports you.
Pamper them too much, you crash.
Fitness is what you carry with your legs.
Be sensible, and it keeps you strong.
Over-think about health, fear freezes you.
Live balanced. Moderation is the key.”
