Let’s Wake Up.

– “Are you blaming the victim?”
– “I’m awakening the victim.”
– “You hold the victim responsible?”
– “I see the victim as capable.”
– “For what?”
– “For transcending being a victim.
And for avoiding turning into one.”
– “You direct attention to capability,
by asking people to pay attention to
where they show incapability?
Isn’t that paradoxical?”
– “Are these walls here made of concrete?”
– “Of course. What else would it be?”
– “Clay, maybe. Or wood.”
– “Are you kidding? Why would it be so?”
– “Why wouldn’t it be so?”
– “Who wants weak walls of clay or wood?”
– “So it’s information about weakness
that inspires growth toward strength, huh?”
– “Oh… Well, OK…
And what weakness would you ask
a victim to focus on?”
– “How would you take down these walls?”
– “I’d focus on a crack. I can widen it.”
– “So you’d use something
the wall already has to your advantage?”
– “That’s how the job is done.”
– “There are cracks in our mental build-up.
Beliefs. Thought-processes.
Scripts of life given to us by
family, community, culture, tradition.
We react in predictable ways.
Someone identifies what they will be.
That’s how cracks are widened.
I’d tell people to introspect. Check cracks.
It’s a choice to fortify walls.”
– “But why focus on the victim at all?
Shouldn’t you focus on the oppressor?”
– “Sure I’ll focus on the oppressor. But,
Wolves exist because rabbits exist.
It’s an equation.
We can’t erase it by canceling only one side.
If you cancel wolves but keep rabbits,
the gap will be quickly filled by hyenas.
We don’t want that, do we?
It’s not the fear of punishment
that keeps robbers out of this room, dear;
It’s the concreteness of these walls.”
